On Wednesday, June 11th, the North Carolina Department of Transportation held a public forum at the Burnsville Town Center to gather feedback on plans to replace three storm-damaged bridges in Yancey County.
The bridges, all located off N.C. 197 South, include structures on Toodies Creek Road, Riverview Road and Cattail Creek Road. Each site currently has a temporary bridge in place following damage from Hurricane Helene.
According to NCDOT, the three bridge replacements are being handled as a single project, aimed at restoring critical transportation routes and incorporating resiliency features where possible to better withstand future storms. Construction on the N.C. 197 South bridge is expected to begin in early fall.
