On July 26th, 2025 MCAR will hold the Mutts & Mousers Fur Ball, a fundraising event presented by Bill & Connie Sales and an anonymous sponsor! This event will be held on July 26th from 6-8:30pm at 31 Cross Street in Spruce Pine. Tickets are $75 per person and include heavy Hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and music by local fan-favorite band Saving Shirley. Creative dress is encouraged. Dust off your dancing shoes, tux, hammer pants, sequined gown or favorite overalls… we can’t wait to see what our guests come up with! Tickets or sponsorships can be purchased online at mitchellcountyanimalrescue.org/fur-ball or in person at MCAR 2492 Hwy 19E Spruce Pine, NC 28777.

Proceeds from this event will go towards the love and care of our precious shelter pets. Our facility is the only licensed open admission shelter in Mitchell County. We hold a county contract with Mitchell County to house and care for stray pets, to assist with animal cruelty cases and housing, and to quarantine any pets under observation for rabies. We also take in animals surrendered by their families for a variety of reasons. We accept any pet in any condition with open arms showing each animal love and respect.

In addition to caring for Mitchell County animals of all species, we also hold a contract with Avery County to house pets who have been seized in animal cruelty and neglect cases, to assist officers when needed, and to quarantine Avery pets under observation for rabies.

As you can imagine, we are bustling! Our policy is to help as many pets as humanly possible regardless of their temperament, health status, breed, species, or age. It’s quite the undertaking. Last year our number of at-risk pets who entered our facility grew by 200 from the previous year, and 2025 is proving to be just as busy. Income from events help us purchase life-saving vaccines, antibiotics, flea preventatives, diagnostic testing, de-wormer meds, microchips and of course, help to pay for spays/neuters for shelter pets before adoption. Please consider joining our sponsors of this event or joining us for a fun evening for a great cause!
