Update on Burnsville Rally Incident

Investigators have completed interviews with several witnesses who allegedly saw an argument break out during an anti-Trump “No Kings” rally at the Burnsville Town Square on Saturday, June 14.

Burnsville Police Chief Brian Buchanan said the incident involved Spruce Pine resident 53 year old Randy Horton Jr. and the alleged victim, 73-year-old Norman Rabek.

According to a Burnsville Police Facebook post, after conferring with the Yancey County District Attorney’s Office, Randy Horton Jr. of Spruce Pine was charged with Assault Inflicting Serious Injury, taken before the Magistrate’s and placed under a $5000 secured bond. Horton was charged with assault inflicting serious injury. Horton was booked around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night but was released on a $5,000 bond about an hour later. No further details have been released at this time.
