Robert (Bob) A. MacKichan, an avid naturalist and outdoorsman, passed away peacefully at his home in Green Mountain, North Carolina, on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 24, 2025. He was 79.
Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose adventurous spirit and warm heart left a lasting mark on all who knew him. He found great joy in the outdoors—fishing, boating, hiking, canoeing, and SCUBA diving. A passionate traveler, Bob embraced the cultures and beliefs of people from all walks of life with an open mind and a kind heart.
He earned his Master of Science from the University of Florida and was a scientifically and technically gifted individual who enriched the lives of those around him with his knowledge, curiosity, and generosity. Bob earned his Eagle Scout badge at a young age. Children loved him and he always had time to teach them new things about nature and science. He was deeply respected and will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anne; his daughter, Carrie MacKichan Simmons; his son, Robert Hollon MacKichan; and three grandchildren, Gavin Robert Simmons, Blake Andrew Simmons, and Ethan Mahlon MacKichan. He was the middle child of three and is also survived by his siblings, John and Margaret MacKichan. To celebrate and honor Bob’s life, the family will host a Celebration of Life in the summer of 2026 at their home in Green Mountain.
