Frank Arthur Young, 74, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned from this earthly life Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was born June 4, 1951, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, to the late Ralph Young and Betty Ann Buchanan.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Navy. A retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, he served for 22 years on multiple tours of duty, including time in Kuwait. His service included dedicated commitment during Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. After 9/11, he served on the Criminal Investigative Task Force in Washington, DC.
He was a dedicated employee at Miller Coors Brewing Company for 32 years. He received a bachelor’s degree in Geology at Appalachian State University in 1973 and an MBA from Averett University in Danville, Virginia, in 1989. His love for the beauty and design of nature created a desire to collect many things, especially enjoying the collection and study of rocks.
His interests expanded beyond academia into the simple things in life that brought him joy. He enjoyed traveling and exploring many countries; but he also found contentment closer to home where he could be found throwing axes and knives, gardening, fishing at Myrtle Beach, or spoiling his rescue cats. He proudly volunteered with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) starting in 2009.
Frank’s life was marked with kindness and care. He never met a stranger. His memory will be forever cherished by Rachel Robertson Young, his wife of 52 years and his shag dance partner. He was a proud father of two daughters, Holly Daniels (Jack) and Karla Tharrington. He also leaves behind his brother, Shawn Young (Sheri); grandchildren, Taylor Tharrington, Jake Blevins, Kalob Daniels, Braeden Daniels; nephews, Jesse Young and Dustin Young; and a host of friends and extended family. As a man of quiet strength and integrity, he loved his family beyond measure. His grandchildren are special recipients of the legacy of love and honor he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County, 132 Joseph Martin Highway, Martinsville, Virginia, 24112.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Zeke Zanatos officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
