Multi-County Incident Ends in Arrest

A manhunt lasting several hours ended Monday, July 7, with the arrest of a carjacking suspect following a multi-county pursuit. Authorities apprehended the suspect around 6:35 p.m. in Avery County.

According to Yancey County Sheriff Shane Hilliard, the incident began around 12:30 p.m. with a reported carjacking at the Ingles grocery store in Burnsville. The situation escalated into a chase that spanned multiple counties. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly fired at and struck several vehicles in Mitchell, Yancey, and Avery counties.

Sheriff Hilliard and Avery County Sheriff Mike Henley identified the suspect as 61-year-old Linc Nolan Bloomfield, of Texas. The suspect’s vehicle was located in Avery County, where law enforcement concentrated their search. Bloomfield was taken into custody without incident near Powder Mill Creek Road, close to where the vehicle was found. He did not have a weapon on him when he surrendered. Bloomfield will face multiple charges and as the investigation continues, more about the incident and charges will be released as more information becomes available.
