Burnsville Man Charged in Asheville

On Monday, July 7, a reckless driving stop in west Asheville led to a short police chase and the arrest of 59-year-old Derrick Dwight McFee of Burnsville, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 4:45 p.m., a trooper stopped McFee on Patton Avenue near Hazel Mill Road. McFee got out of the car but didn’t follow the trooper’s commands. He got back in the car and drove off, hitting a trooper’s vehicle in the process.

McFee also struck another car at the Hazel Mill and Patton intersection before continuing on Patton Avenue. Troopers ended the chase by boxing in his car and arresting him. No one was injured.

McFee was taken to the Buncombe County Detention Center and faces several charges, including felony fleeing to elude, DWI, reckless driving, and hit and run. The Asheville Police Department assisted in the response.
