Randy Sparks, age 60, of Deer Park Lake Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at his home.
Born on April 16, 1965 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Rex and Betty Davenport Sparks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Christie Sparks Byrd.
Randy was a member of the Red Hill Baptist Church and a 1983 graduate of Mitchell High School. He served fifteen years with the Iredell County Sherriff’s Department and received the Purple Heart Award as he was wounded in the line of duty. He served as the School Resource Officer in the Mitchell County School System for an additional twelve years. He also served as the Personal Security for Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Randy loved spending time with his family and friends and particularly loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved playing golf and enjoyed fishing, watching FOX news and was known as a great storyteller.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Sherry Hopson Sparks of the home, his son; Adam Sparks and wife, Christie of Statesville, his daughter; Anna Crouch and husband, Tyler of Charlotte, and his grandchildren; Peyton Hopson, Addison Hopson and Bennett Crouch.
The memorial service for Randy Sparks will be on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Wise officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Masonic graveside rites will be provided by Baskerville Masonic Lodge #357 AF & AM.
