The Mountain Piecemakers Quilt Show will take place inside the air-conditoned Burnsville
Town Center during the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair on August 1 and 2, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The show will feature a variety of large bed quilts, small quilts, wall hangings, and fiber arts, as
well as displays of our Veteran Quilt and Project Linus service projects. A “country store” of
sewing items will be set up inside the Town Center, and the Guild will also have a booth on the
town square showcasing our 2025 opportunity quilt.
Our 2025 opportunity quilt is made from the pattern “Cabin In the Stars” by Glad Creations
using batik fabrics. This beautiful quilt, measuring 90 by 104 inches, consists of traditionally
pieced blocks with dark and light stars in a log cabin setting. It is quilted on a long-arm machine
by a Guild member. Tickets for the quilt are available at Mountain Time Mercantile, from any
Quilt Guild member and at our Mt. Mitchell Crafts fair booth. During July, the Opportunity Quilt
is displayed at Mountain Time Mercantile on East Main St. in Burnsville,
Online order opportunity quilt tickets at https://mpqg.wildapricot.org/opportunityquilt or buy
from your local quilt guild member.
Proceeds from our opportunity quilt ticket sales go towards purchasing fabric and batting for
Hero Quilts for local veterans and Project Linus quilts for children in need. Each year, 50 quilts
are presented to local veterans from Yancey, Mitchell, and Madison counties. This marks the
thirteenth year of our Hero Quilt distribution, during which MPQG members have made and
donated over 600 quilts to honor those who have served in our military. Nomination forms for
Veteran Quilts are available on our website.
We extend our gratitude to the Mountain Air Giving Fund for their grant assistance, the
Burnsville Rotary for their efforts in honoring our heroes on Flags for Heroes Day in November,
and Yancey Journal, Mitchell News-Journal, WKYK, and WTOE for their support of our Hero
Quilt project. We also appreciate all the individual donations we receive to help with this project.
The 2025 opportunity quilt drawing will be held at the Flags for Heroes celebration in
November, and the quilt will be shipped to the winner if needed. The Quilt Guild invites the
community to join us as we honor our local veterans and thank them for their service on
November 8 at the Burnsville Town Square.
Mountain Piecemakers is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that offers educational
opportunities for those interested in quilting, alongside our community service projects.
