Betty Frye

Betty Frye, age 78, of the South Toe Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Ellen Grindstaff.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Arthur “Sonny” Frye; her sisters: Maxine Duncan and Maphra Armstrong; brothers: Phillip and James Grindstaff; and her fur baby Jasmine.

Betty was a proud employee of Baxter Healthcare, where she retired after 35 years. She was strong in her faith and an active member of Halls Chapel Baptist Church. She took pride in cooking for her friends and family, whom she loved very much. She enjoyed shopping and dressing in the latest fashions; or working along side of her family in her gardens. Betty always had beautiful flowers blooming and she cared for them with a steady and tender touch.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories of Betty, is her son, David Frye and his wife Susan of Burnsville; one grandson, Thomas McBee of Burnsville; sister, Velma Conrad also of Burnsville; several nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 21st, 2025 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service.  The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Rev. Holt Whitson will officiate. A private burial will be held at later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice WNC, for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Betty and her family.
