Modean Edwards, age 78, formally of Burnsville, passed away on Friday, July 18th, 2025. Modean was a daughter to the late R.C. and Abbie Davis Renfro.
Modean loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed their time that they spent together, especially when they went out to eat at Western Sizzlin. Modean had made so many special friends at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation that they became like family to her while she was there. While she was able, Modean loved to work in her garden and flower beds. She had a “green thumb” and could grow anything that she wanted to. Modean will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Christy Warehime (David) of Chucky, TN; grandchildren: Matthew Colson (Jasmine), Michael Colson, both of Kingsport, TN, Courtney Merryman (Eric) of Parkville, MD, Brandon Colson, of Westminster, MD; great-grandson, Maverick Colson; Rebecca Jones, who was Modean’s social worker but became more like one of her grandchildren; brother, Ricky Renfro (Joann) of Spruce Pine, NC; sister, Mary Willis of Burnsville; several other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 25th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Skip Weiford will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
