Judith Ann “Judy” Garland

It is with a blend of profound sorrow and joyful remembrance that we announce the peaceful passing of Judith Ann “Judy” Garland, who gracefully completed her earthly journey on the morning of June 12th, 2025. She entered into eternal rest, surrounded by the comforting presence of her beloved dog, Toto, and her cherished cousin, Scot Garland, at her home in Palm Desert, California. Judy lived a life marked by an insatiable curiosity, boundless warmth, and an unwavering zest for adventure.

Born on September 24, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, Judy was a beacon of light, the adored daughter of Elmer Winton and Lynette Rogalinger Garland. Her innate brilliance and dedicated spirit were evident early on, as she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boardman High School in 1959. She continued to nurture her keen mind at Youngstown State University, where she earned her degree in psychology, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to understanding and connecting with others.

Judy’s adventurous heart knew no bounds. Her journey took her to Germany for several years, where she extended her compassionate spirit through her work with the American Red Cross, touching lives far from home. Upon her return to the United States, she continued her impactful career as a social worker at Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, where her empathy and dedication provided solace and support to countless individuals.

Her vibrant career then seamlessly transitioned into the dynamic world of corporate travel, where she lent her talents to esteemed organizations like Holiday Inn and Playboy. Fueled by an authentic passion for exploration, Judy embarked on a full-time career in the travel industry, establishing offices in the bustling energy of Los Angeles, California, and the historic charm of London, England. A true global citizen, Judy’s passport told a magnificent story of discovery, having journeyed to every continent and explored over 130 countries. Among her many cherished destinations, the romantic allure of Paris and the vibrant spirit of Thailand held an especially fond place in her heart.

In her later years, Judy channeled her remarkable energy into ‘World Championships of the Performing Arts’, working closely with her dear friend, Griff O’Neil. However, it was her dedicated volunteer work with Citizens on Patrol (COPS) that became her final, deeply cherished passion, illustrating her enduring commitment to community and service.

Judy was a master of connection, cultivating a tapestry of friendships that spanned the entire globe. She held each and every friend close, and her infectious enthusiasm for life was a radiant force that inspired and brightened the days of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her absence will be profoundly felt by a multitude of friends from every corner of the world, whose lives she enriched immeasurably.

Judy is survived by her Aunt Eva Jo Garland, several cousins, a multitude of friends, and her special friend, Griff O’Neil.

Judy will be laid to rest with her beloved parents in Burnsville, North Carolina, a place that held a special connection to her roots. A heartfelt celebration of Judy’s extraordinary life will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 26th at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, California, where friends and loved ones will gather to share cherished memories, honor her incredible legacy, and commemorate a life lived with unparalleled joy, curiosity, and love.
