Mountain Community Health Partnership Breaks Ground on New Facility at Grassy Creek in Spruce Pine

On Friday, July 18, 2025, Mountain Community Health Partnership (MCHP) celebrated a historic milestone with the official groundbreaking ceremony for its new health center and headquarters, located on Grassy Creek. The event marked a pivotal moment in MCHP’s history, symbolizing years of planning and collaboration to expand access to high-quality, community-based healthcare in Western North Carolina. The new 20,000-square-foot integrated health center will significantly increase MCHP’s capacity to serve the region’s growing healthcare needs.

“This groundbreaking is more than the start of construction—it’s the start of a new chapter for our patients, staff, and the entire community,” said Jamie McMahan, MCHP’s Chief Strategy Officer. “This facility will allow us to expand services, improve care, and continue our mission of providing accessible, comprehensive healthcare for all.” Added MCHP CEO, Tim Evans. The new site represents a major investment in rural healthcare infrastructure and will bring expanded primary care, behavioral health, and supportive services under one roof.

The project would not be possible without the generous support and collaboration of local and state leaders.
MCHP again extends heartfelt thanks to the Thomas H. Phillips family for the land, and to Senator Ralph Hise for his is continued advocacy. Appreciation also goes to Representative Dudley Greene, Bill Slagle, Mitchell County EDC Director, formerly of EDPNC, and Dogwood Health Trust for their vital support, as well as the Town of Spruce Pine, Mitchell County Government, and Mitchell County Economic Development Commission and Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce for their ongoing partnership. Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks, with the facility expected to open its doors in early
October 2026.
