The streets of Spruce Pine came alive on Saturday, July 26, as 158 runners and walkers took part in the 2025 Top to Toe 5K, a signature summer race sponsored by the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce and The Quartz Corp. The event saw a remarkable 65% increase in participation over last year’s race, highlighting the growing energy and momentum in the region. Participants came from across Mitchell County and the surrounding region, as well as from neighboring states like Georgia and South Carolina, to take part in the race through scenic downtown Spruce Pine. The course showcased the town’s natural beauty, charm, and revitalization.
This year’s event was presented in partnership with The Quartz Corp, with generous support from
sponsors including Featured Sponsor Mountain Community Health Partnership, Blue Ridge Regional
Hospital, Piedmont Natural Gas, Josh Newton, P.A., City Drive-In, and Ingles. Adding to the festive atmosphere, Bruce Ikard provided live music for the event, creating a vibrant backdrop that kept spirits high before, during, and after the race. “The growth in participation this year tells a powerful story about where our community is headed,” said Bill Slagle, Executive Director of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce. “We are not only seeing our local families, business partners, and organizations show up—we’re also drawing visitors from across the Southeast who are discovering everything Spruce Pine and Mitchell County have to offer and want to be a part of supporting our communities as we make an amazing comeback.”

organized, and fun event for all.
The Top to Toe 5K continues to promote community, health and wellness and unity while strengthening
the local economy and community ties. With record-breaking turnout, outstanding community support,
