The Yancey Long Term Recovery Group (also called Yancey Mountain Recovery) was formed by Yancey leaders to continue to plan and coordinate the disaster recovery process in the county following Hurricane Helene, and to prepare for future disasters. The organization grew out of an informal group of service providers that began meeting weekly in October 2024 immediately after the storm to address community needs. The group has continued to meet and is currently awaiting approval of its nonprofit status. Find more information about the Yancey LTRG at mymountainrecovery.org. The Yancey LTRG has received a $1 million grant from the American Red Cross for staffing and direct assistance to Helene survivors in Yancey County.
