Kelly Ray Gunter, age 57, of Beaver Creek Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at his home.
Born on March 11, 1968, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Danny Gunter and Sabra Wright Robinson who still survives.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Alicia Gunter, his maternal grandparents B.R. Wright and Wilma Wright and his paternal grandparents, Ray and Carol Gunter.
Kelly was a 1986 graduate of Mitchell High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was proud of his service to his country and enjoyed his duty stations including Germany.
He loved his daughter, granddaughter, family, and friends, and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Kelly enjoyed traveling, having seen most of the continental United States.
Left to cherish his memory are his granddaughter, Raeleigh Gunter; his mother; Sabra Wright Robinson (Larry); his sister, Jean Gunter (Rick Beam); his brother, David Gunter; his stepmother, Carolyn Gunter; and other relatives, including a stepbrother, stepsister, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and others.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home. A private family service and interment will be at the Western North Carolina Veteran’s Cemetery on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Brandon Pitman officiating. Military honors will be provided by Sgt. E.L. Briggs, Chapter #27 D.A.V.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
