Christy Lynn Waldroup Gomez, age 47, of the Busick Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 17th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Cherokee County, she was a daughter of Tommy Donald Woody and Sandra Kay Waldroup. She was preceded in death by her biological father, Rex Ray Waldroup; two infant sisters: Nancey Rena Waldroup and Angela Rena Waldroup; brother, Danny Ray; and niece, Andrea Kay Shultz.
Christy was a CNA and med tech, and loved taking care of others. She enjoyed going camping and being on the water at the lake. She was a collector of owl figurines. She loved going to church as long as she possibly could, and always believed in putting others before herself, especially her family. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandbabies and all her family. Her absence will leave a great void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but all the wonderful memories of her will be cherished forever.
Surviving are her loving husband of 12 years, Ramon Vazquez Gomez; three children: Daniel Taylor, Sara Gomez and Selena Gomez, all of Burnsville; sister, Shannon Castanos (Paco) of Pelham, Alabama; brother, B.J. Woody (Kenzie) of Spruce Pine; two grandkids: Leeland and Lennon Taylor of Burnsville, and nephew, Levi Woody of Spruce Pine; and uncle and aunt, James and Linda King of Blue Ridge, GA. She is survived as well by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 21st in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Keith Blankenship will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the wonderful care given to Christy.
