This five-mile loop hike through the woods has 550 feet of elevation gain and features several peaceful water features. The outing should take 2-3 hours to complete. It is made moderately challenging by some boulder-hopping, rocks and roots in the trail and some ladders which may not be suitable for dogs.
Bring a good lunch to enjoy by the cascading Hebron Colony Falls. Due to the many creek crossings waterproof shoes are recommended.
Hikers will gather at 8:30 a.m. in the Park-n-Ride 130 NC-80 N, located just off Hwy 19E, one mile east of Micaville. A Yancey County van will then take us on the one-hour ride to the Trailhead. High Peaks requests a donation of $5 per person to ride the van. Upon completion of the hike YCT will bring us back to the Park-n-Ride.
Dogs are not allowed on the van so alternate arrangements will need to be made if you plan to bring your pooch. If you do bring your dog, it must remain on a leash for the safety of others.
Contact hike leader Jimmie Bowen at jimmie@nchighpeaks.org to reserve your spot on the van, with any questions and to let him know if you plan to drive to the trailhead.
