Betty Jean Hoilmon

Betty Jean Hoilmon, age 77, of Bakersville, went Home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at her home.

A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Howell Sr. and Bernice Nell Silvers Howell.

She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, James Roger Hoilmon; two sisters: Faye Benge and Linda Yelton; a brother Floyd Howell Jr.; and two infant children.

Betty worked at Hampshire Hosiery as a folder until her later years. She had a very outgoing personality and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed reading all genres of books and picking flowers from her gardens by her front porch. Most of all she cherished the time spent with her loving family and cooking out with them. Betty loved to shop and browse the shelves in stores. She also loved taking trips to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee with her daughter, Lisa.

Left to cherish her memory is her two sons: Eddie Hoilmon and his wife Donna and Kevin Hoilmon and his wife Lisa, all of Spruce Pine; a daughter, Lisa Pitman and her husband Tim, of Bakersville; 9 Grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special friends: Betty Blevins and Ronald McKinney.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, September 8th, 2025 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Tyler Pitman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Silvers Chapel Cemetery in Bandana. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Blue Ridge.
