JC Wheeler, age 81, of the Pine Swamp community, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15th, 2025. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Boyd and Bertha Bailey Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shana Denae Wheeler and two nephews: Barry Edwards and Ryan Wheeler.
JC owned and operated Wheeler Farms for more than 40 years, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the work he loved. He especially enjoyed the time he spent driving his tractor and trailer, a true reflection of his admiration for farming. He was a lifelong NASCAR fan who also loved attending local car shows. His passion extended beyond the track, as he enjoyed collecting Corvettes, particularly the 1980–1982 models. JC never met a stranger as he was a very caring and giving person. He loved trips to the flea market or setting down to a big bowl of ice cream. He found quite reflection in listening to classic country music. JC was a very active outdoorsman and was particular fond of the beach. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
JC is survived by his daughter, Kellie Wheeler Mullis (David) of Texas; son, Clay Wheeler (Christy Pressley) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren: Seth Mullis of Texas, Gage Mullis, of Las Vegas Nevada, Savannah and Lakelyn Wheeler of Asheville, NC; sisters: Linda Ann Austin (Jimmy) of Etowah, NC and Flora Faye Edwards of Burnsville, NC; brother, David Neal Wheeler of Burnsville, NC; special friend, Bill Boone; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 21st, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Adam Bradford will officiate. Burial will follow in the Boyd Wheeler Cemetery, located on Pine Swamp. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
