As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene approaches, nonprofit Pisgah Legal Services wants people to know that free, civil legal aid and other assistance is still available to people who live in Western North Carolina (WNC) and have been impacted by the storm.
Executive Director Jackie Kiger says, “Over the past year, Pisgah Legal has assisted thousands of people throughout WNC as they work to recover from Hurricane Helene. We want folks to know that this work is ongoing, and that we are in this for the long haul.”
She continues, “If you have storm-related issues, such as insurance appeals, FEMA denials, foreclosure problems or have been the victim of a consumer scam, we hope that you will contact Pisgah Legal Services for assistance. Help is still available with these issues and as well as with filing applications for Renew NC.”
Pisgah Legal and its partners have conducted more than 50 clinics and outreach events across the WNC region since October 2024; more events are scheduled this Fall.
