NC License Extension May Not Count in Other States

ncdmv-2

On July 1st North Carolina extended Class C driver’s licenses by two years because of a shortage of testing officials which led to backed up lines at DMV offices and people unable to book appointments online prior to licenses expiration. The move lets expired licenses remain valid for driving inside the state through December 2027. But the licenses can’t be used for ID, air travel, or guaranteed recognition outside North Carolina. Drivers should be aware if you’re headed to Tennessee or South Carolina or any other state, those states will likely treat the license as expired. Drivers who travel should renew rather than rely on the extension. In August the DMV started hiring an additional 40 examiners to help alleviate the backup.
