Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 3, to celebrate the reopening of Tri-County Builders in downtown Spruce Pine. This marks the return of one of Mitchell County’s most historic businesses, now under the ownership of Doug and Angel Willis.

Tri-County Builders, a longtime cornerstone of the local building supply industry, suffered devastating impacts during Hurricane Helene. After nearly a year of recovery and rebuilding, the beloved business is opening its doors once again, symbolizing both resilience and new beginnings for the community.

“This is more than just the reopening of a business—it’s a celebration of perseverance, community, and renewal,” said Bill Slagle, Executive Director of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce/EDC. “We are thrilled to welcome Doug and Angel Willis as the new owners and to see Tri-County Builders once again serving our region.”

The ribbon cutting event was attended by community members, local leaders, and Chamber representatives, all coming together to mark this milestone for Spruce Pine and Mitchell County.

Tri-County Builders is now open and ready to serve contractors, homeowners, and do-it-yourself builders across the region. They are located at 181 Roan Rd in Spruce Pine.
