Jerrell Buchanan, age 77, of Spruce Pine, passed away at his residence and returned to the Lord on October 19, 2025.
Born in Yancey County, Jerrell proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star for his bravery and dedication. After his service, he devoted his life to his family, his faith, and his community.
A faithful member of Crabtree Baptist Church, Jerrell served in many roles and was a deacon for 40 years.
Jerrell was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Florence Thomas Buchanan; his sisters, Rebecca Ann Fox and Sheila Morris; and his sisters-in-law, Gail and Nadine Buchanan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Geraldine McCurry Buchanan; son, Travis Buchanan (Cheryl) of Statesville; daughter, Jennifer Garland (Rodney) of Bakersville; five grandchildren: Katrina Andert (Evan) of Charlotte, Jacob Buchanan of New Jersey, Jared Buchanan (Elizabeth) of Statesville, Chase Garland (Maddie) of Bakersville, and Colby Garland of Bakersville; and 3 great-grandsons, Jack and Jordan Andert, and Finnley Buchanan. He is also survived by his brothers Ronald Dean Buchanan of Morganton, Larry Buchanan of Morganton, Gary Buchanan (Mary) of Morganton, Jimmy Buchanan (Anita) of Old Fort, Kermit Buchanan (Lois) of Marion, Kenny Buchanan (Trish) of Marion, and Michael Buchanan (Brenda) of Arizona.
Visitation will be held at Yancey Funeral Services in Burnsville from 6 until 8 p.m on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Funeral services will be at Crabtree Baptist Church in Burnsville at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, with graveside services to follow in the Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Brandon Fore and Rev. Chad Wise will officiate the services.
