Spruce Pine Man Sentenced After Assault at Burnsville Rally

Spruce Pine resident Randy Horton Jr. appeared in court on October 20 for a disposition hearing following his arrest for assault inflicting serious injury during the “No Kings” rally at Burnsville’s town square on June 14th. Horton reportedly assaulted 73-year-old Norman Rabek during the event. Witnesses reported seeing an argument break out between the two men. Burnsville Police officers collected numerous eyewitness statements and other relevant evidence including available video footage of the incident. Horton pleaded not guilty, but District Court Judge Alexandria Leake found him guilty and sentenced him to a minimum of 75 days in prison. He was also ordered to have no contact with Rabek for one year.
