Police in Marion have arrested a suspect in a Monday morning shooting that left one man injured.

Officers were called around 10:30 a.m. to CJ’s Convenience Store, where an argument in the parking lot led to gunfire. Investigators say 40-year-old Robert Owens of Marion pulled a small-caliber handgun and fired at 31-year-old Donovan Wilson, who was sitting in his car trying to drive away.

Owens then left the scene in a burgundy Chevrolet Trailblazer. Wilson was later stopped by police and found with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville and is expected to recover.

Several hours later, state troopers in Burke County found Owens as a passenger in another vehicle and took him into custody. He’s charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Owens is being held in the McDowell County Jail without bond.
