NC High Peaks will lead a hike on the Appalachian Trail along the eastern flank of Roan Mountain from Carvers Gap to Grassy Ridge Bald on Friday, November 21. Hikers will be treated to spectacular panoramic views of Grandfather, Beech and Sugar Mountains as well as Mount Mitchell and the Black Mountains. This relatively easy out-and-back hike will total five miles with 1,100 feet of elevation gain and should take three to four hours to complete. Please meet at 9 a.m. at the Park-n-Ride on Hwy 19E at the intersection with Hwy 80 North – about a mile east of the Micaville Loop. We’ll carpool from there for the one-hour drive to Carvers Gap.
Bring water, a healthy snack, hiking poles if you use them and sturdy footwear. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome, but please make sure they have water and treats as needed and also be prepared to clean up after your pup.
Please contact hike leader Mariane Garceau via text at (845) 545-2441 to let her know you are coming.
