Carl Whitson

Carl Whitson, age 81, of the Green Mountain Community, left this walk of life on Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Fred and Isby Gortney Whitson.  He was preceded in death as well by his sister, Kate Bailey; brothers:  Arthur Whitson, Claude Whitson and Jay Lee Whitson;  father-in-law, Everett Garland; and brother-in-law and best friend, James Webb.

Carl loved the outdoors and enjoyed nothing more than being outside, working with his tractor.  He loved helping his neighbors with their garden work.  Time with his family was very important to him, and they made many wonderful memories camping together.  His church, Green Mountain Presbyterian, meant so much to him, and he loved working on projects there.  Anytime anything needed doing, he was there to help.  Carl was a devout Christian who put the Lord and his family before everything else, and time spent with each was more important to him than anything else in life.  He was dearly loved, and his presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Family meant everything to him, and he leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Earlene Garland Whitson of Green Mountain; daughter, Angela Whitson Beaver and husband, Doyle of Green Mountain; grandson, Ashton Beaver of Green Mountain; sister-in-law, Ella Jean Webb of Harrell Hill Road in Bakersville; two nephews:  Greg Whitson (Lori) of South Carolina and Anthony Webb (Leia) of Burnsville; two nieces:  Amanda Duncan (Donald) of Lenoir and Miranda Evans (Mack) of Burnsville; two great-nephews:  Aidan Duncan of Lenoir and Grayson Webb of Burnsville; three great-nieces:  Madison and Ansley Whitson of South Carolina and Julianna Duncan of Lenoir; and mother-in-law, Julia Garland of Buladean.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 6th, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Garland Honeycutt will officiate.  Graveside services with Masonic rites will follow in the Woody Cemetery on Ridge Road.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.  To send online condolences, please visit our website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
