Bill Deyton, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in the Mine Fork Community at the age of 91 on Sunday, December 14th, 2025. A lifelong resident of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Carrie Edwards Deyton. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley McIntosh Deyton, who passed away in 2013; brother, HP “Budge” Deyton; half-brothers: Kenneth Deyton, Wilburn Deyton and Ronnie Deyton; sisters: Hassie Deyton, Julie McCurry and Jean Laws; and half-sister, Kathy Deyton.
Bill was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud “Pop” who found his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren. He was a truly good and gentle man, known for his kind heart, caring nature, and the love he gave so freely to his family. Bill had a lifelong passion for old cars and took great pride in everything he owned. His place was always meticulously cared for, with a perfectly mowed yard that reflected his strong work ethic and attention to detail. He believed in doing things right and took quiet satisfaction in a job well done. Those who knew Bill will remember his humor just as much as his warmth. He was always quick with a joke or a smile and was affectionately known as a “Crackerjack”. Bill’s legacy is one of love, laughter, dedication, and family — a life well lived and deeply cherished by all who knew him.
Family meant everything to Bill, and he leaves behind his son, Terrell Deyton and wife, Judy, of Burnsville; grandson, Kodie Aldridge Deyton and wife, Autumn, of Burnsville; granddaughter, Laceysta Worley of Bristol, TN; five great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Remmi, Kaleb, Khloe and Isaiah; sister, Dorothy Green of Asheville; half-brothers: Lee Howard Deyton of TN, Sam Deyton of Charlotte, Friel Deyton of Hickory; and half-sister, Carolyn Deyton of TN. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family that he loved also survive.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17th, at the Holcombe Cemetery. Bryan Peterson will officiate.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Compassionate Care WNC for the wonderful care given to Bill, and requests that memorials be made to them at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
