Sherry Kay Hughes Edwards, age 73, of Mt. Ulla, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 6:01 a.m. Born on March 2, 1952, in Mitchell County, North Carolina, Sherry was a daughter of the late Burdette Hughes and Marcella Gillespie Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joshua Edwards; sisters: Christine Robinson and Gloria Boone; and her brother-in-law, Ed Robinson.
Sherry spent her life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. Sherry was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and a friend to everyone she met. She truly never met a stranger. Known for her kind heart and selfless spirit, she loved life and cherished time with her family above all else. Her faith guided her daily life, and she was a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Cleveland, North Carolina. She found joy in the simple, meaningful things—especially tending to her flowers and garden, caring for her chickens, and opening her home and heart to others. Sherry lived her life quietly serving those around her, always putting others first. She made it a point to tell everyone who visited her that she loved them and would be praying for them.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Hiram “Pete” Edwards, of the home; her grandchildren, Luke Edwards and Jordon Edwards; her sister, Linda Hughes; her aunt, Mildred Dillenger; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children.
A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Ronald E. Young. Special music will be provided by Fabian Hughes. Interment will follow at Fred Young Cemetery, where Sherry will be laid to rest beside loved ones. Pallbearers will be Luke Edwards, Jordon Edwards, Gary Hughes, Brandon Ray, Fabian Hughes, Tim Robinson, and Chris Robinson. Sherry’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith, kindness, and unconditional love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Edwards family.
