Louella Buchanan Polechio

Louella Buchanan Polechio, age 90, of Green Young Cemetery Road in Bakersville, passed away Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Green’s of Spruce Pine.

Born on May 17, 1935 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Molton Buchanan and the late Nola Pitman Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Polechio who passed away in 1986. She was also preceded in death by a son; Rodney Polechio and her sisters; Ann Boone, Georgia Fisher, Kathlene Wheeler, Louise Bayuik, and Juanita Smith.

Louella was a member of the Berry Chapel Baptist Church. She loved her family and spending time with them. She read her Bible on a daily basis. She enjoyed playing bingo, working puzzles and watching game shows on t.v. She also was an avid Mitchell Mountaineers sports fan and a fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Alan Polechio of Lincolnton, Doug Polechio and wife, Lisa of Bakersville and Randy Polechio of Spruce Pine, her grandchildren; Heather Polechio of Asheville, Michael Polechio of New Port News, VA, Cody Swann of Burnsville, William Polechio and Brendon Polechio both of Newland, Chasity Miller and husband, Judd of Spruce Pine and Casey Wise and wife Amber of Spruce Pine, her great grandchildren; RJ Miller, Lydia Wise and Micheala Miller all of Spruce Pine, her daughter-in-law; Margaret Polechio and her former daughter-in-law; Sonia Gilbert.

Funeral services for Louella Polechio will be on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Berry Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev’s Steve Williams, and Bruce Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Berry Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.
