The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office has concluded its 2025 Shop with a Sheriff program for the season, marking another successful year of serving local children and families during the holidays.
Elementary school children participated in a Christmas party held at the Yancey County Senior Center, where they enjoyed lunch, watched a Christmas movie, and opened gifts provided through the Shop with a Sheriff program. Sheriff’s Office staff handled all shopping on behalf of these children to ensure each received meaningful and age-appropriate gifts. The Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Yancey County Senior Center staff for providing a delicious lunch and welcoming environment for the children.
Middle and high school students were treated to lunch at Twisted Laurel and then accompanied by Sheriff’s Office staff to shop at locations of their choice, allowing them a more personalized experience.
“The holidays can be a difficult time for some families, and this program gives us the opportunity to make a positive difference in a child’s life,” said Sheriff Shane Hilliard. “Seeing the smiles and excitement from these kids reminds us why community involvement is such an important part of what we do.”
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere thanks to the Burnsville Police Department, Yancey County Probation Officers, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol for their assistance and support in making this year’s Shop with a Sheriff program possible.
The program once again provided a positive holiday experience for participating children and strengthened connections between local youth and local law enforcement.
