Jerry James Jones, age 80, of Licklog Road in Newland, NC, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25th, 2025.
Born on September 27th, 1945, he was a son of the late Jessie James Jones and Amelia Franklin of Newland, NC. Jerry was known as “Paw” to his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Jones; sister, Becky Jones Careccia; brother, Jessie Jones, Jr.; and sister, Linda Jones Horney, who was his farming buddy.
Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife and best friend of 60 years, Carolyn Whisnant Jones; son, Jerry Dale Jones and wife, Shanda, of Newland, NC; daughter, Tammy Jones and Billy Brooks of Stoney Creek, TN; grandchildren: his very special granddaughter and caregiver for the past months, Jericha Jones-Thomas and husband, Dylan, of the home; Jesse Jones who was his fishing buddy; Sierra and husband, Roy Arnett; and great-grandchildren: Brinton and Brelynn Thomas, and Arrow, Coasten and Anoaha River Arnett.
Jerry is survived by seven siblings: Brenda Jones, Allen Jones and wife, Lucy, Peggy Massey, Ricky Jones and wife, Valerie, Connie Poteat and husband, Rick, Kim Calhoun and husband, Robert, and sister, Lucinda Adams. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory numerous loving nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends, such as his lifelong very special friend, Roger Singleton.
Jerry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother. Jerry was a jack-of-all-trades. During his lifetime, he worked as a builder/carpenter, farmer, and many other trades. Jerry worked and retired from years of service from the Department of Corrections. He loved working in his shop in the winter months, making cabinets and various other pieces of furniture.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30th at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Jude Hughes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Ashley Hendrixon-Ward, FNP , as well as the nurses and staff at Medi Home Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Jerry.
