Karen Benfield McMahan, age 63, of Hide Road in Bakersville, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025 at her home.
Born on June 26, 1962 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Hue and Ruth February Benfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald McMahan who passed away in 2018 and her brother Jerry Benfield.
Karen was a member of the Roan Mountain Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Avery High School and Mayland Community College where she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and retired from Avery-Mitchell Correctional where she served as nurse. In her spare time, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Lisa Riddle and husband, Cleve of Bakersville, her son; Kenny Geouge and wife, Ava of Lenior, her brothers; Jim Benfield and wife, Angie of Burnsville, John Benfield and wife, Pam of Jonas Ridge and Ron Benfield of Plumtree, her sister-in-law; Kathy Benfield of Elk Park, her grandchildren; Isaiah Waycaster, Payton Geouge, Andy Riddle and Daisy Geouge, six nieces and three nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Webb Funeral Home.
