Betty Street Pendley, age 74, of Spruce Pine, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025.
A native of Buladean, she was a daughter of the late Coy and Bessie Hughes Street. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Trula Hughes, Shelby Street Lewis, Arville, Larry and Wade Street; and a nephew Ronnie Hughes.
Betty was strong in her faith and loved the Lord with all her heart. She worked as an accountant for the State of North Carolina for many years and was a dedicated employee, who strived for excellence in every job she performed. Betty was always smiling and talking to someone, rarely meeting a stranger. She had an outgoing, sociable soul and loved to sing and dance.
Family was most important to Betty, she loved to fix food and feed her family and spend quality time with them. When she wasn’t in her kitchen, Betty enjoyed being outdoor tending to the abundance of plants and beautiful flowers she grew in her garden.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Gary Pendley; a son, Shane Pendley (Fiancé Twana); sister, Judy Street Harper (Mike); nephews: Jerry Street (Tracey), Gary Street (Melissa), Stevie Hughes (Juanita) and Rhett Harper; nieces: Debbie Aldridge and Brooke Street; a number of great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
