Patricia Ann Buchanan (Sissy), age 61, of Wilcox Drive in Bakersville, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026 at her home in Bakersville.
Born on July 2, 1964 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Buchanan and Dorothy Wilcox Buchanan who still survives.
She was a graduate of Mitchell High School and was retired from Mountain View Correctional in Spruce Pine where she served as a corrections officer. Prior to her employment at Mountain View Correctional, she worked at O.M.C. in Burnsville.
Patricia loved her dogs and was known as a ‘home body’ and she was her mother’s care giver for a number of years. She was an avid U.N.C. Tar Heel basketball fan. She loved to tell stories of her brief time when she was training for service at Fort Dix, NJ.
Left to cherish her memories are her mother; Dorothy Wilcox Buchanan of Bakersville, her sisters; Nicole Buchanan of Bakersville and Barbara Fields (Eddie) of Spruce Pine, her nieces; Chantel Buchanan (Ethan) and Carrie Pittman (Chris), and her great nieces and nephews; Bentley, Cayden, Memphis, Scarlett, Sophia, Carver, and Crayden. She was also survived by her dog, Baby.
Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the Buchanan Family Cemetery on Young Cove Road in Bakersville.
