Tuesday, January 20th the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department announced they have an outstanding felony warrant for Christopher Stanley Bethea Jr. for child abduction. The SBI is assisting the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and the Asheville Police Department.. Christopher Bethea was arrested by the Asheville Police Department and charged with statutory sex offense with a child under 15 and statutory rape of a child under 15. He is currently being held in the Buncombe County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected to be filed.
