Mitchell County deputies have secured a felony arrest warrant for a man found with a missing child in Asheville.

The investigation began around 11:23 Sunday night, when a mother reported her daughter missing. Sheriff Donald Street said the child was not in her bedroom and had apparently left through a window.

Using data from the juvenile’s phone, Mitchell County deputies, along with Asheville Police and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, located the child and the suspect at a residence in Asheville on Monday.

Deputies say the child will return home safely.

Investigators are urging parents to closely monitor their children’s social media activity. Asheville Police have not confirmed whether the suspect is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
