Joyce Ann Hughes (Joy) 61, of the Licklog Community went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Joy was born on January 13, 1965 to the late Ted Hughes and Betty Hughes. Joy resided at home with her momma from birth until she went to be with Jesus.
Joy was born with special needs, and even though the road was tough, Betty’s love and devotion to Joy’s care never wavered. Her every need was met and then some. Joy had a laugh and smile that would warm any room she was in. Everyone that knew Joy loved her. Joy had a very special wave, a flick of the wrist, to tell you hello and good bye. She hummed beautiful melodies all the time and would say only the phrases da,da,da or huh. She loved to talk to her loved ones and friends with these special phrases. Joy also loved to hear songs about Jesus. Jesus Loves Me, was one of her favorites. She would glow when she would hear someone sing it.
Joy is preceded in death by her father Ted Hughes, brother Lesley Hughes, paternal grandparents John and Nola Hughes, maternal grandparents John and Ida Tolley.
Left to cherish Joy’s memory are her mother Betty Hughes, brother Tommy Hughes, sisters Alma Ledford (David), and Angel Dugger (Andrew). Joy’s nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews include, Tasha Dickerson (Adam), Cody Ledford (Ashley), Paige Harris, Aaron Dugger (Annie), Austin Dugger, McKenna and Grayson Ledford, Blakeley, Brynleigh and Sawyer Harris and Aubrey and Hazel Dugger.
Joy also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that loved her so much, one of which is Trisha Hughes who worked with and loved Joy up until 2013 when health issues forced her to retire.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Nance officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Thursday at the funeral home.
