Charles James Rhyne

Charles James Rhyne, age 82, of Three Mile Community, went Home to be with Lord on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a 17 Year courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 12th, 1943 in Avery County NC, he was the son of the late Jack and Ruth Dellinger Rhyne of Spear, NC. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers Roger and David Rhyne.

Charles leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife and best friend of 52 years, Lela Carpenter Rhyne ; Daughter, Robin Rhyne Harmon and husband Jamie Harmon of North Wilkesboro, Son, Matthew Charles Rhyne and wife Shasta McClellan Rhyne of Three Mile: His Grandchildren whom he loved dearly Tyler Rhyne Harmon & Maleah Brooke Harmon of North Wilkesboro. Brother Larry Rhyne of Spear NC and a special Aunt Lillian Rhyne of Plumtree NC. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory numerous loving nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends.

Charles was a devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather and proud veteran of the United States Army, where he answered the call from Uncle Sam to serve his country. He retired from Henredon Furniture company following 36 years of Service. Charles was a member of Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and for many years choir leader. Charles loved the Lord, his church and church family. Charles was a true Ford man and through the years he owned several old cars and trucks. One being his 1968 Ford Mustang that he bought when he got out of service. It was often said he would get rid of Lela before he did it. He was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan and enjoyed watching them play ball along with his old western shows. Charles will be remembered not only for his look that made his kids mind, but his sense of humor that everyone loved. His absence will be deeply felt.

The Rhyne family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Hospice of the Blue Ridge for the wonderful care and compassion that was given to them and Charles during his illness.

Funeral services for Charles Rhyne will be on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Jim Shoupe and Blake Glenn officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, January 23, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Internment will be in the Walnut Grove Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.
