Dennis Carroway, age 80, of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 after a period of declining health. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Finley and Love Gouge Carroway. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Royce Carroway and a brother-in-law, Bill Bartlett.
Dennis loved riding his motorcycle and attending rallies, and he took great pride in his work as a truck driver. He was employed with Tri County Oil Company for over 40 years before later retiring from Parker Lumber. Dennis was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served his country in Vietnam, all on the ground. He was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church and a retired Burnsville Fireman. Dennis was a devoted member of the Burnsville Masonic Lodge No. 717 for over 50 years, where he previously served as Past Master and had served as a past District Deputy with the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the E. L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Linda Carroway; nephews and nieces: Charlie Carroway, Pam Allen, Leslie Crowder (Rev. Toby), Lydia Anderson (Josh) and Danny Earley; sister-in-law, Brenda Earley (Lee) and Ruth Carroway. Also surviving are several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 28th at Faith Baptist Church. Rev. Dwight Boone, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow the services in the Carroway Cemetery with Masonic grave rites conducted by Burnsville Lodge No. 717, weather permitting.
