Marietta Young passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2025, at Carmel Hills in Charlotte at the age of 92. She was born June 8, 1933, in Big Sandy, WV, to the late Elmer and Vicie Clagg. She was one of ten children, and all of her siblings preceded her in death.
She married the late Howard Young in 1956 in Baltimore, MD, where they had met, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage prior to his death in 2020. They relocated to Bakersville early in their marriage, and she taught third grade at Deyton Elementary School in Spruce Pine for many years. In her retirement years, she enjoyed travelling, spoiling her granddaughters, and teaching Sunday School. She travelled to Israel and was delighted to be baptized in the Jordan River. Marietta loved Jesus! He was her Savior, her Rock, her Strong Tower, her Shelter from the storm, her Redeemer, and her Friend. She believed and claimed John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He sent His only Son, and that whoever believes in Him would not perish, but have eternal life”. She believed Romans 10:13, “For all who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” She was a prayer warrior and prayed consistently for all those she loved.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Susan) Young and Tom (Kelly) Young; granddaughters: Mallory (Andrew) Thompson, Emily (Scott) Haynes, and Molly Young; three step-granddaughters; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
