Baxter Eliminates 90 Positions

Baxter confirmed in a statement on Thursday, February 5, that it has eliminated about 90 positions at its Marion facility following a review of its manufacturing network.

A company spokesperson said the North Cove site — which produces roughly 60% of the nation’s IV solutions — faced supply disruptions while recovering from Helene in September 2024. The disruptions prompted “clinical changes in IV use across the U.S., which in turn affected overall demand for IV solutions.”

Baxter said once demand stabilized at lower levels, the company took steps to align with market conditions. Those measures included eliminating open positions and contract roles where possible, along with reducing its workforce by 3%.

The North Cove facility was heavily impacted by Helene in September 2024, leaving employees unable to access the site for several days after the storm. Temporary bridges were installed in October, and the facility shipped its first post-Helene product in November 2024.
