Join High Peaks for a Valentine’s Day hike, Saturday,  February 14 on the Upper River Loop at the Black Mountain Campground.

This 4-mile hike starts and ends in the campground. The first section of the trail overlooks the South Toe River, then enters a beautiful forested area with lots of hemlocks and spruce. A highlight will be our traverse across a huge landslide left by Helene, which offers a view of a new waterfall formed by the storm’s floods.

Meet at the Black Mountain Campground parking area at 10 a.m. The hike should take about 2 to 2.5 hours and is rated as moderate.

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome. Hiking boots, poles and plenty of water are recommended. Check the weather for appropriate coats, gloves, etc, and check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for a postponement if the weather is bad.

Please text Hike Leader Diane Schramm at 904-349-0479 to save your spot or if you have questions. Candie Smith will also help lead the hike.
