History Happy Hour With Poet Hilda Downer

Hilda Downer, the inaugural poet laureate of the High Country, will share her work at the History Happy Hour at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 3, at Center for Pioneer Life, 134 Joe Young
Rd., Burnsville. She grew up in Bandana and lived just about 100 feet from the Sink Hole Mine. Her anthology, Had I a Dove: Appalachian Poets on the Helene Flood, recently received anAmerican Writing Award in Poetry Anthology and became a finalist in Nonfiction Anthology.Several local poets, including Jennie Boyd Bull, Pat Riviere Seel, and Amy Copley Tilly, have poems in the book.
