The Yancey County Board of Elections has announced multiple changes to polling locations across the county, affecting several voting precincts ahead of upcoming elections.
Voters in the Prices Creek Precinct will no longer cast ballots at Cane River Middle School. Instead, they will vote at Blue Ridge Elementary School in the school gymnasium.
The Egypt and Ramseytown precincts will now vote at the newly rebuilt fire station that replaced the station destroyed during Hurricane Helene. The new facility is located at the same address as the former fire station.
In addition, voters in the Green Mountain Precinct will no longer vote at Clearmont Elementary School. Those voters will now share a polling location with the Brush Creek Precinct at the Brush Creek Community Building.
Jacks Creek Precinct voters will also leave Clearmont Elementary School and will now vote alongside the Prices Creek Precinct at Blue Ridge Elementary School’s gymnasium.
The Board of Elections says all voters affected by the changes will receive a postcard in the mail highlighting their new polling location. Officials also remind residents to review their Voter Registration Card, which lists their assigned precinct and voting site.
Voters who move within Yancey County must update their address with the Board of Elections. Those who move outside the county will no longer be eligible to vote in Yancey County after 30 days and must register in their new county of residence.
Election officials also note that while voters are allowed to vote with or without photo identification, those voting in person will be asked to present a valid photo ID. Free photo IDs are available through the county Board of Elections prior to Election Day and during early voting. Voters without ID on Election Day may still cast a ballot by signing an affidavit explaining the reason for not presenting identification.
Residents with questions about their precinct or polling location can contact the Yancey County Board of Elections office at 30 East U.S. Highway 19E Bypass in Burnsville or by phone at 828-682-3950 during regular business hours.
