Robert Thomas Trice

Robert Thomas Trice, age 67, of the Frank Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026 at his home.

A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Kathleen Ward Trice. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 12 years, Helen Horney Trice.

Robert worked for North Carolina Department of Public Safety as a Correctional Officer for 28 years. He began his career at the Blue Ridge Youth Center until the time of the center’s closing. He then transferred and eventually retired from Mountain View Correctional Institute. Regardless of the task at hand Robert was a dedicated employee who took pride in the job he did. In his spare time, you could easily find him enjoying the outdoors hunting, fishing or playing a round of golf. He was fond of eating at Wendy’s and was also an avid Tennessee Volunteers football and Elvis fan.

More than anything Robert enjoyed time spent with his son, daughter-in-law and beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He was a man full of life, always had a smile on his face and willing to help a friend in need. Robert will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those left to cherish his memory is his son, Dustin Trice and wife Amanda of Newland; his beloved grandchildren: Remington, Ava and Lillee Trice; and a brother, Terry Trice and his wife Kathy of Gulf Shores, Alabama. A host of extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 19th, 2026 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, beginning at 2 p.m. with burial following in the Slippery Hill Cemetery.
