Two out of three Mitchell wrestlers participating in the 2A nchsaa State Wrestling Championships placed in the tournament Saturday in Greensboro.
Sophomore Erris Crone placed 4th in his first appearance at the state championships.
Senior Bryson McCall’s finished 3rd with a strong pinfall in the final bout against Alleghenys Christopher Nuevo. McFall’s defeated Nuevo one to nothing in the state dual playoffs last week and had previously defeated Nuevo 4-3 in the regional finals.
Tristan Phillips was Mitchell’s third state qualifier, but fell just short of the podium.
As a team, the Mountaineers finished 14th one slot ahead of the Avery Vikings.
