An incredible $148,292.00 was raised Saturday evening, February 21st at the GAA Classic Cars Auction as they welcomed Rebuilding Hollers, a Yancey County nonprofit. The organization allowed them to share their story with everyone there. For 2 minutes the whole crowd was silent as they watched the video on the big screen. They then auctioned a beautiful Cadillac donated by the The George Shinn Foundation, raising $32,000 with the vehicle. Next George Shinn took the stage and challenged everyone to make a donation. According to Rebuilding Hollers founder Stephanie Johnson, Mrs. Elizabeth donated $40,000 to help purchase a piece of equipment for the next phase of rebuilding. When the announcer asked for donations the crowd went wild as people started donating $10,000 & $5,000 dollars at a time. The men that work in the crowd for bids joined in passing their hats around and collecting cash donations.
