Barbara Jean Duckworth Blair

Barbara Jean Duckworth Blair passed away unexpectedly at her residence, after a period of declining health on Monday,  February the 23rd, 2026. She was a daughter of the late Gurney and Martha Norman Duckworth. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Ronnie Mitchell Duckworth; a sister: Melissa Duckworth Munday; aunts, uncles, and two infant nephews.

She had a deep love for writing poetry, finding joy in putting her thoughts and feelings into words that comforted, inspired, and uplifted others. Through her poems, she shared pieces of her heart, leaving behind treasures that will be cherished forever. Barbara also had a love of being outdoors and fishing. She relished in setting on the peaceful riverbanks.  She loved to sing—whether it was around the house, at gatherings, or surrounded by family and friends. Her voice carried warmth and happiness, and in those moments of song, she brought people together. Music was one of the many ways she expressed love.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for telling jokes. Her laughter was contagious, and she had a special ability to make people smile, even on their hardest days. Bringing joy to others wasn’t just something she did—it was a gift she carried naturally and generously. Her greatest love was her family and friends. She treasured every gathering, every conversation, every shared meal. She made each person feel valued, seen, and deeply loved. Her heart was open, kind, and always ready to give.

Her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the foundation of her life. She walked in faith, trusted in His promises, and reflected His love in the way she treated others—with grace, compassion, and forgiveness. She also had a special love for dogs, especially her beloved dog Mr. Mr., who brought her comfort and companionship. The bond she shared with her furry friend was a beautiful reflection of her gentle and caring spirit.

She is survived by her daughter: Vanessa ward (Ricky) from Elk Park; a son: Robert Blair of Newland NC; five grandchildren: Emily Ward (Jonathan Wise), Logan Blair, Sklyar Richardson, Kara Holtzcalw, and Ally Holtzcalw; a great grandchild; Walker Ryan Richardson; sister: Brazilla Duckworth Norris (Wade); sister-in-law: Debbie Duckworth; special Aunt: Mildred Duckworth Buchanan. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins also survive.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life Saturday, February 28th, 2026 beginning at 2 p.m. at Minneapolis Christian Church in Avery County. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the services the church. Speaker Woody Young will be officiating.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her poetry, her songs, her laughter, her faith, and the countless smiles she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. To send online condolences, please visit our website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
